I have incredibly fond memories of my Mum reading the Brambly Hedge books to me as a child and later reading them myself. Enthralled by the story, the characters and the beautiful illustrations inside, I was transported into the most wonderful world a little girl could dream of, filled with woodland creatures and countryside delights.
This is why we bought our niece ‘A Year In Brambly Hedge’ collection for her birthday, written and illustrated by Jill Barklem in 1980 the collection has four books, one for each season, containing beautiful depictions of the adventures of a community of mice living in Brambly Hedge.
The cross section illustrations of the trees and homes of the animals were always my favourite, it offered a secret peek into their world without disturbing the activities, like observing nature.
