Jim Datz – Illustration

I recently discovered Jim Datz’s design work, I particularly like his unique style of illustrated maps, Adam has a soft spot for maps so I hope he enjoys these.

My instant reaction to Datz’s work was that it reminded me of an illustrated children’s book that I adored as a child; Richard Scarry’s “Busy Busy World”.

The City Series illustrations are a collaboration between Three Potato Four and Jim Datz. Some of these prints have featured in New York Magazine, TimeoutNY, DailyCandy and other publications.

I think these maps are such a good way to display interesting parts of each city – London, San Francisco, Brooklyn, Manhattan. They are a unique combination of typography, colours, 1950’s illustration and city signposts.
